Apple iPad Pro M5 Gets 3.5x AI Boost + Custom Chips

"Apple iPad Pro M5 Gets 3.5x AI Boost + Custom Chips" cover image

Apple just dropped its latest iPad Pro, and this thing is absolutely packed with upgrades that go way beyond the usual "faster processor" routine. The new M5 chip delivers up to 3.5 times better AI performance than the previous M4 model, which is impressive on its own. What really grabbed me, Apple finally built fully custom cellular and wireless chips into the iPad Pro, a big stride toward breaking free from third-party suppliers.

The bottom line: Evolution over revolution

The M5 iPad Pro is smart evolution. Pricing remains unchanged at $999 for the 11-inch model and $1,299 for the 13-inch version. Pre-orders began October 15th, with devices arriving in stores October 22nd.

Connectivity might be the sleeper hit. Wi-Fi 7 and the efficient C1X modem could matter more day to day than raw compute, especially if your workflow leans on cloud sync, shared drives, and live collaboration. Apple pushing into fully custom wireless and cellular chips also underlines the same independence play we saw when it moved from Intel to Apple Silicon.

If you own an M4 iPad Pro, this is not a mandatory upgrade unless you want the AI jump, Wi-Fi 7, or you work in connectivity-heavy apps. Holding an M1 or older, though, the stack of improvements in speed, networking, and efficiency makes a strong case. The real question, do these gains line up with how you actually work, and is that worth the price for you?

Apple's iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates are packed with new features, and you can try them before almost everyone else. First, check our list of supported iPhone and iPad models, then follow our step-by-step guide to install the iOS/iPadOS 26 beta — no paid developer account required.
