Three men were arrested recently in connection with the armed hijacking of an Apple delivery truck outside a Long Island mall four months ago. An indictment was unsealed in federal court in Central Islip.

Alan Christhofer Cedeno-Ferrer, 27, of the Bronx; Michael Mejia-Nunez, 29, of Manhattan; and Ennait Alexis Sirett-Padilla, 24, also of Manhattan, each face charges of Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy, and interstate transportation of stolen property, per the indictment. Conviction on all counts carries a statutory maximum of 30 years in prison. No defense statements have been reported.

What investigators say happened at the Americana Manhasset

The delivery truck arrived outside the Apple Store at the Americana Manhasset shopping center around 8 a.m. on January 3. Two workers had barely begun unloading when a black Honda Accord pulled up, and three masked, armed men stepped out, according to court records reviewed by ABC News. Investigators said the three defendants were waiting for the truck with a detailed plan already in place, per court filings.

One worker was immediately forced into the back of the truck and zip-tied. The second was ordered at gunpoint into the driver's seat and directed to a secluded parking area behind an office building less than half a mile away, then forced into the cargo hold alongside the first worker, hands also bound, prosecutors said.

A Home Depot box truck had followed the convoy to that location. It backed up flush against the delivery truck's rear doors, cargo sections aligned, so the merchandise could be moved directly across without handling it in the open. Surveillance cameras captured the maneuver, according to the same court filings. The operation required a second vehicle, a pre-selected transfer point, and precise timing around a morning delivery window, a combination prosecutors say reflects deliberate planning, not opportunism.

Once the transfer was complete, the suspects shut the cargo door with both workers still inside and left. Federal investigators described the victims as having been "terrorized and abducted by masked gunmen" and "left for dead, zip-tied and locked in a freezing truck," according to court documents. One worker freed himself from his restraints and called 911 from inside the truck.

The charging documents do not explain how the suspects allegedly knew the delivery's timing in advance. That question, along with whether they had inside information about the route or schedule, remains unaddressed in the public record.

How suspects in the Apple truck hijacking were traced across two states

The Home Depot box truck was the first thread investigators pulled. Cedeno-Ferrer had rented it six days before the robbery using a fraudulent Pennsylvania driver's license, according to court filings. Two days after the robbery, the truck turned up abandoned in the Bronx.

The stolen goods moved fast after that. Prosecutors allege the suspects drove directly from Manhasset to a self-storage facility in Paterson, New Jersey, where surveillance footage allegedly captured Mejia-Nunez and Sirett-Padilla renting a unit. The merchandise was transferred from the Home Depot truck into a U-Haul and at least one additional vehicle, per Greater Long Island's review of court filings. That movement from New York into New Jersey is central to the federal charging theory, the interstate commerce element that gives prosecutors jurisdiction under the Hobbs Act and federal transportation statutes.

The suspects wore masks throughout the robbery, which limited eyewitness identification. The charging documents rely instead on a chain of rental agreements, storage-facility footage, and vehicle-movement evidence across multiple locations in two states. A fake identity tied one suspect to a key rental. The paper trail connected what masks were designed to conceal.

Prosecutors moved to seek detention at the court appearance last Thursday, ABC News reported. In their filings, they argued the defendants are allegedly citizens of the Dominican Republic who entered the United States illegally and are "highly incentivized to flee rather than be convicted of these crimes," per court documents. Those immigration claims appear in prosecutorial detention arguments and have not been tested or ruled on by the court.

The four months between the January 3 robbery and last Thursday's arrests reflect the scope of what investigators had to establish: connecting rental transactions made under a false identity to specific individuals, cross-referencing surveillance footage across facilities in two states, and building the interstate element required to bring the case federally. That's a methodical process, not a delayed one.

The charges and what the case leaves unanswered

All three defendants face Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery conspiracy, and interstate transportation of stolen property, according to the indictment. The Hobbs Act covers theft that obstructs, delays, or affects interstate commerce. Its application here signals that prosecutors are treating this as organized commercial crime, not a robbery that happened to cross a state line incidentally.

The evidence structure is worth noting. The case rests on documentary and surveillance evidence rather than witness identification, a foundation that tends to be harder to contest than eyewitness testimony. A rental agreement signed under a false name is a fixed record. Storage-unit footage doesn't forget faces. Vehicle-movement records don't change under cross-examination. Whether that foundation proves sufficient at trial is a separate question, but it's a durable one to build on.

Several details remain absent from the public record. It is not known whether any of the stolen Apple products were recovered or remotely disabled through Apple's device management tools. No reporting addresses whether investigators believe the three men acted alone or as part of a broader cargo-theft network, or where the merchandise ultimately went after the Paterson storage facility. The charging documents are silent on all of it.

Three men have been charged, a specific evidence trail has been laid out, and the stolen merchandise has been traced to a storage unit in New Jersey. What happened after that point, and who else may have been involved in receiving or distributing the goods, prosecutors have not said publicly. That's where the story goes next.
