The button itself is contextual rather than permanent. It won't sit at the bottom of the screen by default. Instead, it would surface at the bottom of the screen only when a user scrolls upward into older messages, then vanish again once they scroll back to the newest ones.

Collapsing three steps into one doesn't add a new feature so much as remove friction from an existing one. Users open a channel, tap its name to reach the channel info screen, then tap search and type a keyword; results appear as they type, and a jump-to-date option makes it faster to find older posts.
Channel admins get a practical benefit from this, since they can locate an update from weeks or months earlier and reply to it directly, something that previously meant scrolling manually through the channel's entire history.
The Chats tab redesign addresses a third problem: not finding a message inside a chat, but finding the right chat or group to open in the first place. Earlier this year, a separate iOS beta introduced redesigned search filters along with a recent-searches section that sits at the top of the search screen, letting users reopen a chat or group with one tap instead of retyping a query.
That rollout was narrower than the channel feature: it was available to some beta testers, while WABetaInfo noted that some users on the App Store version might also see it. Search text itself isn't logged; WhatsApp stores the record of recent searches only on the device, and users can clear it at any time.
The in-chat search shortcut is the least developed of the three and the most narrowly scoped. It changes only how a user enters the existing search mode inside a chat they're already in, and as of this week it exists solely as a discovered reference in a TestFlight build, with no beta-tester access at all.
