Apple has released and continues to test 2024's major software updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple Vision. But are your devices compatible? Will you need to upgrade a device or two to get all the latest features? Find out here.

The latest OS versions are packed with new features like lockable apps, Math Notes, dark icons, iMessage effects and scheduling, notes highlighting, Writing Tools powered by generative AI, and customizable Lock Screen controls. And that's just the tip of the iceberg for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia 15, and more. But to get these features, you need a compatible device.

Software Currently in Beta

Here are the software versions released on Sept. 16:

  • iOS 18
  • iPadOS 18
  • macOS Sequoia 15
  • watchOS 11
  • tvOS 18
  • visionOS 2

Apple is beta testing the following, including some of its Apple Intelligence features available only for newer devices. However, as of Nov. 4, any device that can run the latest stable release can also run these new ones. These are expected to be released in Q4 of 2024:

  • iOS 18.2
  • iPadOS 18.2
  • macOS Sequoia 15.2

iOS 18.0 – List of Compatible Devices

Any iPhone that supports iOS 17 also supports iOS 18.0.

iOS 18.1–18.2 – List of Compatible Devices

Models with an asterisk (*) may include more advanced Apple Intelligence features.

iPadOS 18.0 – List of Compatible Devices

You can run iPadOS 18.0 on any iPad model since 2018, excluding the iPad (6th generation).

macOS 15.0 – List of Compatible Devices

The watchOS 11 update works on all Apple Watch models since 2020 except the Apple Watch SE (1st generation). You will need an iPhone XS or newer with iOS 18.0 or newer installed.

tvOS 18 – List of Compatible Devices

The tvOS 18 update works on all HD and 4K versions of Apple TV.

visionOS 2 – List of Compatible Devices

There is only one Apple Pro Vision, so if you have one, it will work with visionOS 2.
